Set off to discover the Camargue and the Gard

The Camping Les Amandiers is located in Gallargues-le-Montueux, between Nîmes and Montpellier, at the gateway to the Camargue. This location allows you to explore in several directions: the Mediterranean to the south, the Cévennes to the north, and Roman heritage to the east.

This page brings together all the sites to discover around the campsite, categorized by type: sightseeing, beaches, hikes, and activities.

Marshes and traditions

The Camargue, between marshes and traditions

Horses, bulls, marshes, and pilgrimages: the Camargue is a land apart. Hiking or horseback riding, flamingo watching, walks along the dunes, and visits to manades make up the bulk of the discoveries.

The Camargue Regional Nature Park covers the Rhône delta. On the Gard side, the Petite Camargue offers the same landscapes with fewer crowds. Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Aigues-Mortes are its two iconic towns.

Local heritage and nature

The Gard, local heritage and nature

Between gorges, rivers, and charming villages, the Gard is perfectly suited for ecotourism.

You can alternate between trail walks, viewpoints, and visits to remarkable sites, with outdoor activities like kayaking, canyoning, or horseback riding depending on the season.

The department has 5,600 miles of marked trails. Our selection of the most beautiful hikes in the Gard features eight of them, classified by sector and level.

As for heritage, Nîmes and its Roman monuments remain a must-see visit.

The coast

Beaches and the coastline

The Mediterranean is about thirty minutes away. Le Grau-du-Roi boasts 11 miles of coastline and is home to Port Camargue, Europe’s leading marina. La Grande-Motte features 4 miles of beaches and unique 1960s architecture.

Further west, Palavas-les-Flots and Cap d’Agde complete the seaside offerings of the Languedoc coast.

The villages

Villages near the campsite

Several villages are located less than fifteen minutes away: Mus and its stone houses 3 miles away, Aimargues and its Teillan castle, Calvisson and its three windmills, and Vauvert in Petite Camargue.

A little further, Sommières and its inhabited Roman bridge, as well as Lunel on the Hérault side, are each worth a half-day trip.
