The Camargue occupies the Rhône delta, between the Gard and the Bouches-du-Rhône. Fortified villages, marshes, rice fields, and bullfighting traditions make up a unique territory, where people come as much for the landscapes as for the atmosphere.
From our campsite in the Camargue, in Gallargues-le-Montueux, the main sites can be reached on day trips.
Aigues-Mortes is surrounded by its medieval ramparts, among the best preserved in France. You can walk around them via the watchman’s path, and then explore the town on foot, through its narrow streets and shaded squares. The salt marshes, right next door, offer their pink hues at the end of the day.
Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is the cultural capital of the Camargue. The village is known for its 12th-century fortified church and for its Gypsy pilgrimage in May and October. It is also a good starting point for the beaches and natural areas of the delta.
A little further north, Nîmes provides a Roman counterpoint with its arena and its Maison Carrée, which can easily be combined with a day in the Camargue.
With more than 3,000 acres of wetlands, the reserve offers several trails for observing local biodiversity: guided tours, self-guided paths, and boat trips. You can see a wide variety of birds, plants, and wildlife.
The site also organizes educational activities and workshops for all ages, making it an interesting outing with children.
Located at the gateway to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, this park is the easiest place to see pink flamingos up close. Marked trails cross different habitats and allow you to see the birds in their natural environment.
Guided tours, feeding sessions, and educational programs complete the visit. The Camargue Regional Nature Park also offers other observation points throughout the delta.
It’s impossible to discover the Camargue without taking an interest in its traditions. A visit to a manade (bull farm) allows you to enter the world of the gardians, those herdsmen on horseback who perpetuate a way of life unique to the region. Camargue bulls and white horses, emblems of the delta, are raised there.
The visit often includes a demonstration of the gardians’ work, sometimes a ferrade (the branding of young bulls), and a discovery of the vast open spaces of the plain. Some manades offer meals or aperitifs on-site.
This is an activity accessible to everyone, suitable for families, which gives a good idea of local traditions.
Les Amandiers campsite is located in the Petite Camargue of the Gard, in Gallargues-le-Montueux, which allows you to explore the entire delta while staying close to Nîmes and Montpellier.
You will find mobile homes for 2 to 4 people, family models for 5 to 6 people, unique accommodations, and pitches with or without electricity.
On-site, the pool area with its solarium, the restaurant, the kids’ club, and daytime entertainment allow you to relax between two excursions.

The Camargue occupies the Rhône delta, straddling the Gard and the Bouches-du-Rhône, between Arles, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, and Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône. The Gard part, known as Petite Camargue, extends between the Petit Rhône and the Vidourle.
One day allows you to combine Aigues-Mortes and its ramparts in the morning, then the Pont de Gau ornithological park and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in the afternoon. An alternative is to spend the morning visiting a manade and the afternoon at the beach.
The Pont de Gau ornithological park, in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, is the most accessible site. The Marais du Vigueirat and the Vaccarès pond offer other observation points. Flamingos are present all year round, and are more numerous from spring to autumn.
A manade is a traditional ranch for Camargue bulls and white horses, managed by gardians on horseback. Many manades can be visited: you can watch the gardians at work, sometimes see a branding, and discover the Camargue plain.
Les Amandiers campsite, a 4-star campsite in Gallargues-le-Montueux, is located in the Petite Camargue of the Gard, 40 km from the heart of the nature park and about thirty minutes from the beaches. It offers mobile homes for 2 to 6 people, unique accommodations, and pitches for tents and caravans.
