Camargue Regional Nature Park

A wetland surrounding the Rhône delta, the Camargue is a land of exceptionally rich contrasts: from vineyards to beaches, passing through salt marshes and rice fields, the landscapes are extremely varied. Extending over the three municipalities of Arles, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, the territory of the park is drawn by the meeting of the Rhône and the Mediterranean.

Crucial migratory stopover for many water birds, the Camargue Natural Park is also the only nesting site in Europe for pink flamingos. Several sites have been developed to promote their observation. In Saintes-Maries, the ornithological park of Pont de Gau invites you to discover and photograph the local wildlife: pink flamingos, but also marsh harrier, Glossy ibis or little egret, among a large number of species present in the year or seasonally in the marsh.

Several sites are devoted to the conservation and transmission of Camargue culture: the Maison du Riz, located on a family farm in Arles, the Maison du Cheval Camargue, on the Mas de la Cure estate in Saintes-Maries, or even the Point de vue du sel, in Salin-de-Giraud, which allows you to take in the 6,000 hectares of the saline, its salt hills and its pearly pink salt tables at a glance.

Take advantage of your stay at the gates of the Camargue Regional Nature Park to visit a bull herd, at Sambuc in Arles or at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. For a perfect immersion in the Camargue culture, the landscapes are ideally discovered on horseback. Several mas and equestrian centers offer horseback riding on the beach, discoveries of the Camargue in a horse-drawn carriage, or walks in large farms.
