THE PONT DU GARD: A UTILITY BRIDGE

It was intended to carry water from the Eure fountain to the city of Nîmes . It was built during the first century and has three levels. Built without mortar, the Pont du Gard required more than 800 workers for about ten years. Composed mainly of blocks of stone, the Pont du Gard has suffered numerous deteriorations due to time and human beings. However, it was also renovated to finally retain its current state.
